According to the article "Giving Thanks Can Make You Happier," by Harvard Health Publishing (2014), studies have shown that being grateful can lead to a more optimistic lifestyle: "Gratitude helps people refocus on what they have instead of what they lack. And, although it may feel contrived at first, this mental state grows stronger with use and practice."

Scheduling November 18

On November 18, students grades 9-11 will have a presentation during their homeroom about classes offered next year.  Following the presentation, your student will complete a google form to request classes.

The 2026-2027 Course Description Book will be sent once it's completed.  It will also be uploaded onto the BCHS Counselor Webpage in the near future.

Over the next few months, counselors will be meeting with students one-on-one to confirm their requests.  Once that meeting takes place, your student will be sent home with their requests  to be signed by the parent/guardian and returned to their counselor.  There are NO SCHEDULE changes.

Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: For the second year in a row, Mt. Vernon Nazarene University, has given us seven scholarships to award to students. The school is located in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, which is 45 minutes northeast of Columbus. The scholarship is worth approximately $126,000. Total cost to attend this private, Christian college is approximately $49,000 per year. The scholarship guarantees that out-of-pocket costs would not exceed $18,500 per year for four years. This includes tuition, housing, and food. Not included are books or other non-standard fees. This is an excellent deal for a private university.

Last year, we awarded this scholarship to 6 students. If you would like to check out what the university has to offer, you can go to www.mvnu.edu and browse the website. The scholarships will be awarded to the first seven students who meet the following qualifications:

1) Students apply to the university and are accepted (a college visit is recommended)

2) Students complete the FAFSA

3) Students get a letter of recommendation from Julie Squires, BCHS School Counselor

4) Students pay their housing and academic deposits (total $250--$100 academic, $150 housing)

5) All of this is completed by the January 1, 2026 deadline

The university offers several degree programs. They are noted for having strong education, business administration, biology, engineering, social work, computer science, ministry, and nursing programs. 100% of their graduates in May 2025 passed the NCLEX nursing exam.

brain health

"At times, it seems that teenagers do not think things through or thoroughly understand the implications of their actions. They differ from adults in the way they act, address conflicts and make choices.A biological explanation for this disparity is available. Studies have shown that during childhood and adolescence and well into early adulthood, brains continue to mature and develop." For more information, visit this link
