ACT & SAT Registration

We strongly encourage students to take the ACT and/or SAT many times their junior and senior year.

The progress suggestions that come with the ACT and SAT results to increase the students' knowledge and performance to the next level are a great tool to continue the improvement.

You can register now through Friday, January 9 for the February 14 2026 ACT test. All national test dates for the ACT are given right here at Cooper HS.

You can register now through February 27th for the March 14th SAT test. All national test dates for the SAT are NOT given here at Cooper--you can register for a local site.

All junior students will be taking the SAT here at Cooper during the school day in March.

Students that have free/reduced lunch status can take the ACT and/or SAT for free twice, in addition to the state provided SAT test for all juniors in March. Students with free/reduced lunch status should stop by the guidance office to pick up a form to receive two free ACT and/or SAT tests.

 Transportation Construction Training Program

Attention Seniors:  We are excited to share a unique career-focused opportunity available to our senior students this spring. Gateway Community & Technical College, in partnership with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the University of Kentucky Transportation Technology Transfer Center, is offering a FREE Transportation Construction Training Program. This program is designed to help students begin building a future in the transportation construction industry and includes several valuable, industry-recognized certifications.

Students who complete the training will be prepared for road construction career pathways and may even qualify for sponsorship toward earning a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to apply for full-time employment on the Brent Spence Bridge project, with hiring expected to begin during the second quarter of 2026. These roles offer a prevailing wage ranging from $18–$30 per hour for individuals who are at least 18 years old at the time of hire.

The training sessions will take place at Gateway’s facility in Ft. Wright, running from February through April on scheduled Fridays. Students will be excused from their Cooper classes on these Fridays, but they are expected to make up all missed assignments and assessments within the timeframe agreed upon by their teachers. Transportation to and from the training site must be provided by the student.

Click here for the full program overview, eligibility criteria, training schedule, and application. Completed paper applications are due to Mrs. Grant by Friday, January 9, 2026.

This is an outstanding opportunity for students interested in hands-on careers, skilled trades, transportation, or construction fields.

If you have any other questions or would like additional information, please email amy.grant@boone.kyschools.us

First Aid Room

Students who are not feeling well should report to the first aid room for evaluation prior to having a parent pick them up early from school. Any student who is signed out for illness will need to be seen in the first aid room.

Students returning to school following an illness should be fever free,  without fever reducer such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen, and without vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.

Prom 2026 Information

Dear Juniors, Seniors, and Parents/ Guardians,

We are very excited about Cooper’s Prom this year.  Prom will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 7:30-11 p.m. at Cincinnati Museum Center in Cincinnati, OH.  The tickets will cost $70 each and will include an appetizer bar, parking, photos and dancing.

The administration of Cooper High School reserves the right to deny admittance or ticket purchase to Prom due to prior discipline concerns at previous dances or events, during the school day.  A Cooper High School student (or guest) suspended or expelled from school at the time of the dance is not eligible to attend the dance.  Students may NOT attend prom if they have six (6) or more unexcused absences.  Because tickets are purchased before the event, purchasing a ticket does not guarantee the ability to attend.  Attendance will be verified the day before the dance. Those denied admittance for disciplinary or attendance issues are NOT eligible for a refund of the ticket cost.

This year, there will be 550 tickets available, this is based on the guaranteed contract we sign with the venue.  Tickets are sold in such a way to ensure that every Cooper Junior and Senior has the opportunity to purchase a ticket to attend Prom.  Tickets are NON-TRANSFERABLE and NON REFUNDABLE. Plan ahead. This year, tickets will be sold on the following dates to the following groups of people:

March 23-25:  Juniors and Seniors of Cooper ONLY

March 26:  Cooper Seniors with underclass dates or dates from other schools

March 27:  Cooper Juniors with underclass dates or dates from other schools

March 30-31:  Any remaining tickets will be sold to Cooper Juniors and Seniors

Keeping in mind that Prom can be quite a “financial investment”, we are offering the opportunity to pre-pay part or all of the Prom ticket for Cooper Juniors and Seniors only.  Tickets for underclass dates or dates from other schools MAY NOT be reserved or pre-paid.  If you are interested in pre-paying for a ticket, please write the student’s  name on an envelope (checks can be made out to RCHS) labeled PROM TICKETS and bring it to Ms. Giska in Rm 202.  The balance of all tickets must be paid by March 25.  Any tickets available for purchase after March 31th   will be subject to a $10 late fee (=$ 80 total per ticket).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of us at the email addresses listed below.

Sincerely,

Katey Hucker  mary.hucker@boone.kyschools.us

Failing Grades, Remediation & Summer School

Students that are currently failing a course need to turn things around quickly to avoid not earning the credit. A consistent and sustained effort every day in class is by far the best way for a student to improve his/her grade. JAM and after-school tutoring can help, but only if the student is working hard in class every day. If your student is failing a course, the best course of action is to contact the teacher directly through email to see what habits and support are needed to get things on the right track. More information and tips are listed below.

Yearlong courses have a running grade average throughout the year instead of each quarter.

•    Assessments count as 70% and assignments count as 30% of the total course grade.
•    Each grading quarter is not averaged together, meaning that the grade you see in Infinite Campus is the current grade.
•    While many teachers use Canvas for assignments and assessments, Infinite Campus is the official gradebook and is the most accurate and up-to-date location to find grades.
•    As we progress through the school year, it will become increasingly difficult to see significant increase in a student's current course grade due to the number of assignments and assessments from the school year.

Students who are failing a course should be taking advantage of tutoring and remediation, and they may end up having to recover the course in the summer if they do not.

•    Remediation Plan - We are seeing a significant number of students not taking advantage of remediation opportunities to increase their grade-especially students that are earning failing grades. Students who fail an assessment should communicate immediately with their teacher about re-learning the material and schedule a time to re-assess (during JAM or after school). We strongly recommend that students attend tutoring regularly, and we encourage students attend tutoring at least once BEFORE an assessment to help them prepare and study if they’ve been struggling in a course.
•    Summer School Information – Students who fail a course for the year will likely need to complete the course during the summer in either Credit Camp (4 days for students who narrowly miss passing eligible courses) or Summer School (4 weeks for students who fail math or significantly fail a course). More information about these programs will be coming soon. Both have mandatory in-person attendance and will take place in the weeks after the end of the school year during June.

Panorama Universal Screener Opt Out

Dear Boone County School Families,

Parent involvement and informed choice are very important to Boone County Schools. Beginning December 1, 2025, students in grades 3–12 will be asked to take the Student Competency Survey. We want to make sure you understand what the survey is, what it measures, how we use the information, and how to opt out if you choose.

What the Survey Is

The Student Competency Survey is given three times a year and helps us understand how students are doing socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. It includes two sets of questions:

Student Competencies and School Experiences
These questions focus on areas such as:

Students answer questions about how they feel regarding their effort in school and the support they receive from adults.

Social awareness
Self-efficacy (belief in one’s abilities)
Perseverance
Emotional regulation
Self-management
Classroom effort
Growth mindset

School Support and Environment
These questions ask about students’ perceptions of their school environment, relationships, and learning experiences.

Students can skip any question they do not wish to answer.

Why the Survey Matters

The survey gives teachers and administrators important insights into students’ perceptions and well-being. It helps us:

Identify areas where a school can grow, such as resilience or effort.

Develop strategies that support students in those areas.

Understand whether students feel connected to a trusted adult at school — something research shows is key to academic and emotional success.

After the survey window closes, families will receive a report showing their student’s results. If a student has taken the survey before, the report will also show progress over time.

Viewing the Survey Questions

All survey questions are available for you to review at any time.
Visit the BCS website → “For Parents” → “Student Surveys.”
You can also access them directly here: Student Survey Questions

Opting Out

Participation is encouraged, but you may choose to opt your student out of taking the survey.
Under the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), 20 U.S.C. §1232h, you have this right.

To opt out:

Complete the electronic opt-out form using this link, or
Request a paper form from your child’s school.

Please submit your opt-out form by December 12, 2025.

Questions?
If you have questions or comments, please email help@boonecountyschools.us.
Thank you for partnering with us to support our students’ well-being and growth.

Sincerely,
