September holds a lot of opportunities!

September is shaping up to be an exciting month at our school, filled with opportunities for learning, growth, and family involvement! Our 5th graders will soon be heading out on their field trip to Camp Carlisle, an experience that blends outdoor adventure with hands-on learning. We’re also thrilled to invite all families to two upcoming events: our “Math is Magical” Family Math Night on September 18th, where students and parents can discover the fun side of problem-solving together, and our Parent Conference, “Chasing Your Potential,” on September 27th, designed to inspire and equip families with tools to support student success.

In addition, our students are wrapping up their baseline assessments in reading and math. These assessments help us better understand each child’s current learning level, measure summer learning loss, and identify both areas of needed growth and enrichment opportunities for students working beyond grade-level standards. This important data allows us to tailor instruction and ensure that every student is challenged and supported.

We are grateful for your continued partnership and look forward to seeing you at these events as we work together to make this a successful year for all our students!

Family Guide: IC Parent Portal vs BCS app

Communication is the KEY to making sure everyone is on the same page and knows what is going on. Frustration is usually the first response when we feel like we don't know what is happening; especially with our kids. With the new law passed regarding traceable communication, Boone County has had to make some big changes. Although needed- change is HARD! Admittedly, I am still trying to figure out all of the new programs. I have included some friendly information about the Boone County Schools APP as well as Infinite Campus Parent portal for those feeling a little less than proficient.

Picture release information

We've had a few questions about the On-line registration "Picture permission" section that I felt it necessary to share some practices at New Haven. First, the permissions you give or do not give are an "All or Nothing" permission. We respect your wishes as parents as far as capturing photos / videos of your children and want to make sure we abide by those wishes at all times. It would be impossible to keep track of 700+ kids as far as who has what types of permission, which is why the district requires all or nothing.

So what does that mean? Well, we will not take any pictures of your child for our website or social media account, will not put them in any yearbook or classroom photos. We keep a list (and right now it is very small and very manageable) to ensure we don't include those wishing to opt out of photos are not ever "front and center" in our photos.

However, please understand that is it our practice never to post pictures AND names. We do not put any identifiable information together. If we put a child's name in our newsletter for example, to celebration an accomplishment- we would not put their picture.

What do we take photos for?
For our yearbook as we capture the memories of each year. We also use our photos to create posters each year and hang them up in the school. It tells "our story" and we want our kids to see how important and integral they are everyday. This is "our home" for 170 days and it's important that our students and staff are seen and heard & this is one way we do it. Lastly, we use social media and the BCS "rooms" app to share what is happening with our parents (you) so you also feel involved in our day to day memories.

Sorting day was AMAZING!!

One of my favorite days of the year (I do have quite a few though) is Sorting Day! It's so exciting and the kids are so amazing to each other! The vibe is electric.

What is "Sorting Day"?
Sorting day is when we all come together as a school and cheer on our new students and staff as they are randomly sorted into 1 of our 4 houses. This is the house they will be apart of for their time at New Haven. Each house has their own meetings, leaders, and events (outside of schoolwide events). It's a way to make a pretty "big" school community feel a little more smaller. It connects people that may never have contact with each other, and it builds relationships across the school.

On Friday, our new friends reached in the sorting bag and the "HOUSE selected them!". We will be sending home information about house events, house spirit days, and of course house celebrations!

Picture Day is around the corner!

Fall picture day is Tuesday, September 9th. We've partnered with Schoolhouse photos again this year. Once your child's photos has been taken you will receive an email to look at and purchase school photos. This is NOT completed through the school. School Picture day flier

Parent - Teacher Organization

You will hear me share all year long that our relationship with our parents is the most important thing we can have for our kids. Our PTO (all working volunteers) are a hard working group of parents who really want the best for our kids. I appreciate all of the ideas, creativity, and organization of events. We REALLY could not provide what we do without your support. Whether you are volunteering at events, in the school or classroom, or just supporting the work through fundraising.

Our biggest fundraiser of the year kicks off today! "Build the Zoo" is a fun, interactive way to raise funds for student assemblies (like "Basketball Jones" & "Mike the Science Guy"), academic programming, playground equipment (we are getting ready to seal and repaint the playground), field trips, track and field day, and events like "Me and my guy dance / Mother & son dodgeball". Previously, our PTO purchased all new stage equipment for student performances like our K program, veterans day, and grade level plays.

Please consider Building Your Zoo this month!
